Student Testimonial
"Mrs. Malia was one of the most influential and helpful people guiding me through the application process. She truly cared about me and my future, not just about statistics and spelling errors in my essay. She always made time for me even when she didn't have time to spare. I would highly recommend her as a college advisor."(Student)
Parent Testimonial
"Tara
Malia was invaluable with her assistance during the college process.
Her patience and guidance enabled us to relax and actually enjoy this
special year with our senior. Filling our applications and writing
essays is a daunting task for any student, Tara reviewed, tweaked, and
advised for the best application and essay that our student was capable
of. As our son embarks on his college career we are grateful for Tara's positive attitude throughout the process."Student Testimonial
"In 10th grade I had the pleasure of being taught by Mrs. Malia. She was my sophomore English teacher, and as in any English class, Mrs. Malia assigned plenty of different writing assignments and projects. If I ever had a question or was unsure about my writing in general, I knew that I could turn my assignments into Mrs. Malia before the actual due date and she would be more than willing to look them over and give me the guidance and feedback for which I was searching. Not only did Mrs. Malia read over my writing assignments throughout my sophomore year, but whenever I needed help on any type of writing assignment throughout the rest of my years at The Pennington School, Mrs. Malia would always find time to sit down with me and review the essays and papers I was about to submit into other teachers. Mrs. Malia would go out of her way to ensure that I felt welcomed to ask her for help whenever I needed it, and her insight into and explanations regarding my writing aided me in becoming a better writer for sure. To this day, I still greatly appreciate the help that she gave me."Colleague Testimonial
"As
a former colleague of Tara Malia at The Pennington School for several
years, I am pleased to write on her behalf. We were both members
of the English department, the college placement office, and, as residential faculty, served as weekend duty monitors.
Tara
was an English teacher for all seasons. Thorough in her preparation,
she also frequently sought creative ways to enliven a lesson and
challenge her students, both gifted teens as well as those with learning
differences. Best of all, she was always willing to give individual
help, both after school and in the evenings, frequently sacrificing her
own free moments to address her students' needs.
In
the college placement department Tara was a knowledgeable resource who
guided students, many of whom were boarders who lived far from their
families. It was Tara's responsibility to take the applicant through the
entire process from testing to essay writing to filling out the
applications, which in many cases numbered ten or more schools.
Furthermore, Tara's recommendations for her charges, as well as others
in her classes, were always thoughtful, detailed and well-phrased,
reasons that she was a very popular choice with the students.
Working
with Tara outside the classroom was never a chore. The same kindness
and cooperative spirit that she manifested with her students was also
shared with her colleagues. Indeed, the last time that I was on weekend
duty before my retirement, Tara
planned a little surprise party for me at the afternoon check-in despite her myriad duties, which clearly illustrates her generous spirit.
Finally,
I am delighted that Tara will continue to share her expertise and
sensitivity with young people; she is a talented teacher and a fine
person and anyone who works with her will be fortunate indeed."
